The Drowning Song of Starlight

In the mysterious world of Ondura, where ancient magic flows through both air and sea, a tragedy centuries past has left a dark legacy. When the little mermaid Margarite dissolved into sea foam, her city at the ocean’s depths broke free from its foundation and ascended into the skies, becoming a floating island. Along with her transformation, the powerful SirenPearl, infused with Margarite’s overwhelming sorrow and despair, was washed away to the depths of the sea. For centuries, it rested on the ocean floor, absorbing the dark energy of her grief—until one day, the Pearl cracked open, unleashing a malevolent force that began to corrupt the world. This darkness spread across the land, manifesting in a magical illness that began to infect the Flusswater merfolk. Among the victims is Lotis, the beloved older sister of Nymphaea, a guardian of the sacred Faerie Spring, which provides life to the Flusswater merfolk. Desperate to find a cure for Lotis, Nymphaea embarks on a perilous journey to seek the wisdom of Lynna, the Moor Witch. Lynna, an ancient being who has collected knowledge for millennia, lives in isolation within her swamp and, unlike the rest of the land, has somehow remained immune to the spreading curse.Lynna tasks Nymphaea with discovering the true source of the dying land. The key to stopping the spread of this magical disease lies in unraveling the mystery of the broken Tears Pearl. However, there’s a significant challenge: Nymphaea’s home, the floating city, hovers far above the sea, and there has been no contact between the Flusswater merfolk and those who still live in the ocean below for centuries. The Flusswater merfolk fear the deep seas, viewing the ocean as a hostile and dangerous place due to its depths and the fact that they cannot survive in saltwater. To save her sister and her people, Nymphaea must undergo a dangerous metamorphosis ritual that will allow her to survive in the saltwater ocean. Unlike other aquatic species, the Flusswater merfolk still retain the rare ability of Landwandeling, transforming their tails into legs and moving freely on land—a gift they’ve held since their separation from the ocean-dwelling merfolk long ago.But Nymphaea soon learns that restoring balance and finding the cure for Lotis’ sickness requires more than just her transformation. The breaking of the Tears Pearl has not only affected Flusswater but has also spread its corruptive power to the other merfolk kingdoms: the Coral Sea, the Ice Lands, the dark depths of Abyss, and the fiery Volcanic Isles. The curse can only be lifted if these once-united realms, now fractured by centuries of isolation and mistrust, are brought back together. To reach the distant seas and begin the task of uniting the merfolk kingdoms, Nymphaea disguises herself and joins the crew of a flying pirate ship, one of many that have, for centuries, raided the oceans for magical resources such as siren blood and enchanted seashells. These sky-pirates plunder the ocean’s magic and have left devastation in their wake. Onboard, Nymphaea meets Levon, a mysterious figure who shares a similar fascination with the sea’s lost magic. As they navigate the treacherous skies and oceans, Nymphaea and Levon must convince the rulers of each realm to join forces once again to heal the world. From the brilliant coral gardens of the Coral Sea, the icy, barren tundras of the Ice Lands, the terrifying, star-lit darkness of Abyss, to the violent, volcanic landscapes of the Volcanic Isles, Nymphaea must face danger, betrayal, and the burden of leadership. Each realm holds a key to understanding the Tears Pearl’s destructive power and a piece of the puzzle that could restore peace. The path is perilous, and Nymphaea must earn the trust of these estranged kingdoms, all while battling her growing attraction to Levon and the constant threat of the dark forces unleashed by the Pearl. Their journey is one of unity and redemption, as the fate of Ondura rests on reuniting the broken realms and restoring the balance of the sea’s ancient magic.
